Kate’s Approach to Therapy

Kate's approach to therapy is client-centered, relational and holistic. She works to provide a safe space for her clients to feel seen and heard when in the therapy room. Kate deeply believes that people are relational beings and need the support and encouragement from others to thrive. Her calm and compassionate approach allows her clients to feel at ease when working with her. She strives to collaborate with clients in order to tailor treatment to their specific needs. She would welcome the opportunity to join you in pursuing emotional well-being and healing.

About Kate Kortenhoeven

Kate has earned her Master's degree in Clinical Social Work from Loyola University Chicago and her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Taylor University. She is passionate about hearing her client’s life stories and providing a safe space to do therapeutic work. Kate brings to her work with clients a sense of belonging, empathy, and genuine compassion. She has experience working in acute treatment settings with adolescents, as well as working with children and their families within hospital settings. This professional background has provided Kate with a desire to engage with the grief and loss of her clients in a meaningful way. She works to come alongside her clients to collaborate together, walking towards healing and recovery, as they navigate their own lives. Her social work background emphasizes a person-in-environment lens, as well as belief in the value and importance of relational connection within the healing experience. Kate works with young children through adults and is passionate about her work with her clients. Kate’s treatment can include work tailored towards school concerns, anxiety, depression, trauma, and concerns related to spirituality, as well as building resilience and strengthening interpersonal skills in her clients. 

In her free time, Kate enjoys being active, spending time outside, or being with her friends and family while drinking coffee.
