Dr. Fuhrman’s Approach To Therapy
Her approach is collaborative, strength based, and goal-oriented. She uses a variety of research-based approaches including Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical behavior Therapy (DBT), and Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction Therapy. Teresa’s experience includes play therapy, parent training for addressing common behavior problems in childhood, individual and family therapy.
She has extensive experience working with anxiety, depression, ADHD, gender expansive youth, Autism Spectrum, crisis intervention/suicidal ideation, school problems from preschool through college, managing chronic health conditions, and assisting children and adolescents through the divorce process. She has completed training in DBT, Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction Therapy, and Integrated Behavioral Care.
About Dr. Teresa Fuhrman
Dr. Fuhrman is a clinical psychologist with extensive experience working with people across the lifespan including preschoolers, children, adolescents, college students, adults and older adults in individual, family, and group settings. While completing her PhD at Loyola University of Chicago, she worked at a therapeutic day school and community mental health center and worked as a mental health consultant for Head Start.
Before coming to Heritage Professional Associates in 2003, she conducted assessment and crisis intervention services in a community mental health setting, and she provided psychotherapy services to children, adolescents, and families in private practice. While at HPA, Teresa provided psychotherapy, assessments, and supervision until 2020. Her current clinical activities are limited to consultation.
